The first Esporão Private Selection white was released 22 years ago from the desire to create an outstanding white wine that challenged the region's classic profile. Harvest 2021 is now on the market, the third edition to have been certified organic.

Back in 2001, at the turn of the century and the millennium, Esporão launched its first Private Selection white. The concept at the time was to produce a wine that defied the norms of the great Alentejo whites. Twenty years later, with the release of Harvest 2021, we feel that our goal has truly been met.

Private Selection white 2021 was crafted exclusively from Semillon grapes from a single vineyard. This french variety has adapted especially well to this particular vineyard at Herdade dos Perdigões, just 5 km from Herdade do Esporão. The maturity of the vineyard, the organic production methods, together with the excellent exposure and soil, have come together to showcase the grape's full potential. The northeast exposure protects the grapes during the hottest part of the day. This year's weather conditions during veraison allowed the berries to ripen gradually highlighting the quality and expression of the grape variety.

The fermentation and subsequent aging, together with six months’ periodic bâtonnage in 500 litre-French oak barrels, enhanced the texture and depth of character creating a rich, complex and elegant wine. An additional six months' bottle aging in our cellars further heightened the complexity of this wine.

With a label illustrated by the artist Abel Mota, Esporão Private Selection White 2021 has a limited production of 17,000 bottles.
