Assobio red 2019: a light, elegant and fresh wine 22/04/2021
The new harvest of Assobio Red has just arrived on the market. Produced from grapes grown on a higher altitude and with less sun exposure, this wine represents the fresher side of the Douro.
2019 was a dry year in the Douro, having an average temperature lower than usual. With the exception of July, which had two heat waves, the summer was slightly cooler, allowing for a longer ripening cycle of the grapes. According to the winemaker from Quinta dos Murças, José Luís Moreira da Silva, “the fresh, versatile profile and great gastronomic aptitude of Assobio Red comes out even stronger in this harvest”.
Produced with the typical Douro red grape varieties – Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca – Assobio Red respects the winegrowing tradition of the oldest demarcated wine region in the world. Vinified in stainless steel vats with controlled temperature, most of the blend is then aged for six months in old concrete vats and a small part in used French oak barrels.
