Statement Académie Internationale du Vin

Wine is culture, heritage and identity.

On 25 September, during the 80th United Nations General Assembly, the Académie Internationale du Vin (AIV) will present an appeal to Heads of State and Government, warning against the risk of reducing wine to its alcoholic component and overlooking its cultural, social and historical dimensions.

This document, endorsed by members from 20 countries, argues that wine, when consumed in moderation, has been an essential part of our civilisation for more than eight millennia. It embodies human heritage, landscapes, biodiversity and ways of life that must be preserved.

Esporão stands with this appeal. We believe that fostering a balanced relationship with wine is about upholding values such as moderation, sharing and the connection between people and places. To preserve wine is also to preserve cultures, traditions and landscapes.
