The Organic Path of Quinta do Ameal
14 HA VINEYARD
8 HA FOREST
Quinta do Ameal, located in the Lima Valley, Vinho Verde, is an ancient estate dating back to 1710. Of rare natural beauty, it spans 30 hectares, of which 14 hectares are vineyards and 8 hectares are forest, with prominent walnut, chestnut, and stone pine trees, some over 200 years old. The houses and gardens, occupying 800 metres of the Lima riverbank, complete the landscape. The combination of different altitudes, between 12 and 53 metres, climate, and deep, fertile granite soils, results in unique wines with character and great ageing potential. Following sustainable practices, exceptional grapes of the Loureiro variety are grown here, producing unique white wines. The transition to organic farming has begun with the conversion of the first vineyard parcel.
SUSTAINABLE PRACTICES AT QUINTA DO AMEAL
WINERY
An old cowshed was transformed into a winery in 2021, preserving the building’s original ventilation system. The upper openings allow natural air renewal, cooling the winery during the hottest periods of the year. Solar panels were installed on the winery roof in 2021.
FOREST
In the forest of Quinta do Ameal, walnut, chestnut, and stone pine trees stand out, some over 200 years old. The growth of these local species is promoted through small forest projects.
