Another atypical year, with a warm and rainy winter, followed by a very hot and dry spring. The summer was hot and classified as normal due to the rainfall recorded in June and September.

Throughout the growing cycle, high temperatures and low rainfall in some months contributed to a hot year with average precipitation levels overall, but with deviations from the usual climate pattern.

Soil Type: Schist

Average Vineyard Age: Planted in 1947

Field blend of native grape varieties: Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz, Rufete, Marufo, Tinta da Barca, Preto Martinho, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Amarela,and others.

Hand-harvested, sorting table, destemming, crushing, alcoholic fermentation with indigenous yeasts at controlled temperatures (25º to 28ºC), in granite lagares with foot-treading, and pressing in an old vertical press.

Ageing

In used French oak barrels for around 18 months.

Winemakers: Mafalda Magalhães and José Luis Moreira da Silva.

Color: Deep, intense colour with violet hues.

Aroma: On the nose it is very complex, intense and lively, with ripe red fruit standing out, along with the balsamic aromas typical of older vines and spice notes from barrel ageing.

Palate: On the palate it shows great harmony and elegance, dominated by very fine ripe tannins and balanced acidity. It has a very long, persistent finish that, altogether, points to great ageing potential.
