Quinta do Ameal, a pioneer in establishing the Loureiro grape variety, has just launched the 2020 vintage of Ameal Loureiro. Originating from various plots at Quinta do Ameal, with different characteristics, Ameal Loureiro 2020 expresses the intensity of this grape variety.
“The combination of Quinta do Ameal’s unique characteristics results in a diverse portfolio, which includes this Ameal Loureiro, a more intense and vibrant expression of this varietal. 2020 got off to a cold start, with heavy rain. July was hotter and drier than usual, which accelerated the ripening and development of the berries. A mild August with rain mid-month was fundamental to restore the plants’ balance. These conditions helped achieved greater maturity and concentration, maintaining the typical acidity of the region and giving us a wine that is aromatically more complex, richer and with more volume”, states Quinta do Ameal’s winemaker, José Luís Moreira da Silva.
Aged for 6 months on fine lees in stainless steel vats, this wine is aromatic, intense and balanced. It will develop well over the next 15 years.
